Antonio Giovanni Maria Bergalio

Antonio Bergalio was appointed Chief Governance Officer on January 1, 2026, and became a member of the Executive Board of Banca Intesa on April 2 of the same year. Prior to this,  he spent nearly two decades in top management positions at other banks within the Intesa Sanpaolo Group.

He started his professional career in the banking sector, holding management positions within the Planning and Control function of different Italian banks. He also has significant consulting experience in the field of financial services.

He started covering top management roles of Intesa Sanpaolo foreign banks in 2008, when he took over the position of the Chief Financial Officer at Pravex Bank in Ukraine, and then at VUB Bank in Slovakia and Privredna Banka Zagreb, where he was a member of the Executive Board in addition to his role as the Chief Financial Officer.

He comes to Banca Intesa from the position of Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board and Board of Directors of Alex Bank in Egypt.

He is a member of the Supervisory Board of Pravex Bank in Ukraine, and previously held the same position within PBZ Card d.o.o. in Croatia, as well as Intesa Sanpaolo Bank in Slovenia.

He holds a Master's degree in Economics with honors from the University of Genoa.
