Enrico Cucchiani takes helm of Intesa Sanpaolo

The Management Board of Intesa Sanpaolo yesterday named
Enrico Tommaso Cucchiani the banking group’s new Managing Director and CEO. Cucchiani will assume his duties on December 22, 2011, replacing Corrado Passera, who was appointed Minister of Economic Development, Infrastructure and Transport in the newly-formed Italian government last week.

Cucchiani is taking up the new post from his current position as Management Board member of insurer Allianz. He started his banking career in 1977 at Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust in Chicago, worked for McKinsey & Co., and among many other posts held those of general manager at Gucci Group and insurer Lloyd Adriatico.

Intesa Sanpaolo is a leading bank in the Eurozone and the leader in Italy in all business segments. The Group serves 10.8 million clients through a network of 5,600 branches in Italy. It has selected presence in Central Eastern Europe and Middle Eastern and North African areas with over 1,700 branches and 8.3 million customers.
