Banca Intesa supports international conference "Banking Law 2025"

Banca Intesa, a member of international banking group Intesa Sanpaolo, supported the international conference "Banking Law 2025" – Payment Services: Between the Digital Anvil and the Regulatory Hammer, organized by the Association for Banking Law in Belgrade on November 17 and 18.

The conference, which was officially opened by National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Jorgovanka Tabaković, comprised presentations, lectures and panels and brought together the world's leading lawyers and experts in the field of payment services and banking law, who exchanged experiences and looked at key challenges and opportunities in this area.

"We are witnessing a defining chapter in the evolution of payments that have become one of the most visible faces of financial innovation. Over the past years, the NBS has taken a central role in the transformation of the payment system by encouraging digital payments, modernizing infrastructure and harmonizing domestic regulations with European standards, while banks have been a reliable partner in this change, embracing innovations and investing in the development of modern solutions", Banca Intesa CEO Darko Popović said in his opening speech on the first day of the conference.

On the second day of the conference, Marco Tagliaferri, Senior Director, International Legal Affairs, Intesa Sanpaolo, spoke about cyber fraud and scam, while also sharing Italy's national statistics and experience in the fight against these forms of illegal activities. In particular, he elaborated on the differences between fraud and scam, analyzed the most common types of scam and introduced the audience to the practice of the Italian body in charge of out-of-court settlement of disputes between clients and banks.

A panel titled "Corporate Governance in Banks: Is There Anything Fundamentally New" was also part of the second day of the conference, with participation of Ana Dominiković, Head of Banca Intesa Compliance Office.

"The main challenges today are balancing the interests of different stakeholders, ensuring diversity and efficiency of the board, navigating complex and changing regulations, as well as managing new risks such as cyber security and artificial intelligence," said Ana Dominiković, adding that lack of transparency, poor financial and non-financial reporting and inadequate succession planning of key employees are also important issues.

The first international conference on banking law, organized by the Association for Banking Law, was held in Belgrade in 2024, on the topic of comparative experiences in the application of EU regulations.
