NOTICE ON THE APPLICATION OF SEPA PAYMENTS AND INFLOWS FROM MAY 5, 2026

Banca Intesa a.d. Beograd (hereinafter: the Bank) from May 5, 2026, will begin the operational implementation of SEPA credit payments and inflows within the SEPA payment system, which represents a significant step towards the improvement of international payment transactions and additional approach to the European market.

SEPA is a single payment area in EUR currency with the aim of standardizing and simplifying non-cash payments in euros within Europe, making them fast, secure and affordable. SEPA introduces uniform standards and rules for executing payments in euros. Joining the SEPA payment system is an important step towards integration into the European market and provides an additional boost to exports, e-commerce and the expansion of business beyond the borders of Serbia. SEPA payments are significantly cheaper than classic SWIFT transactions in euros, facilitate business with partners in the EU/SEPA framework, and for users in Serbia it means more favorable sending and receiving of funds from abroad.

Accessing the SEPA payment system enables faster and more efficient execution of non-cash payments in EUR between Serbia and the member countries of the SEPA zone, which includes a total of 41 countries and certain territories. Among them are all 27 members of the European Union, as well as Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Great Britain, as well as Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, the Vatican, Albania, Montenegro, Moldova, North Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia. The SEPA zone includes the following territories: Aland Islands, Azores, Canary Islands, French Guiana, Gibraltar, Guadeloupe, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Madeira, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, Saint Bartholomew and Saint Martin.

The updated list of SEPA zone members is available on the official website of the European Payments Council and you can view it here.

Starting from May 5, 2026, the Bank will execute international payment transactions in EUR currency through the payment system - International/Interbank Clearing in the currencies of the National Bank of Serbia, SEPA or SWIFT, taking into account the characteristics of the transaction, documentation, regulations and elements of the order, choosing the most favorable solution for the user. This means that you, as a user, when initiating a transaction, either in a branch or through mobile/electronic banking, do not choose a payment system, but the Bank determines it according to the conditions met, taking care that the transaction is carried out through the payment system most favorable to you in accordance with the conditions met. If you still want to make a payment via SWIFT to a recipient in the SEPA zone in EUR, you can do so by selecting the OUR cost option.

The SEPA standard implies:

  • SEPA orders are executed exclusively in EUR currency and with a maximum of 70 characters in the user's name;
  • For SEPA orders, only SHA distribution of costs is applied: the sender and receiver bear the costs of their banks;
  • For a SEPA transfer, a valid IBAN of the recipient that was opened in a SEPA member country is required. In addition to the IBAN, the correct BIC code is also required for the correct execution of the transaction, which enables accurate identification of the bank in international payment transactions and prevents errors in order processing.
  • SEPA credit transfers are carried out on the same day (T+0) or at the latest on the next working day (T+1) in accordance with the Term Plan for receiving and executing payment orders - available in bank branches and on the presentation of Banca Intesa in the General Terms and Conditions section.

Execution within the specified period assumes the legal correctness of the received order, the correct documentation on the basis of which the payment is made, if it is prescribed, that is, if the client does not have an agreement on the execution of the order for payment abroad without submitting the documentation, as well as provided coverage for the execution of the remittance and compensation.

The confirmation of the completed payment will be delivered, as before, to the e-mail address registered in the Bank's system. In case of realization of SEPA payment with date T+1 (next working day) it will be delivered on the next working day in the morning hours.

When it comes to SEPA inflows, the funds will be credited to the payee's account immediately, i.e. on the first working (business) day in the case of inflows during non-working days, but the payee is still obliged to:

  • submit a valid IBAN number to the principal - the IBAN is available to users of the BizMobi application in the foreign currency account display section. You can get a valid IBAN with an instruction for an international transaction at the Bank's branches or by sending a request to the Contact Center at the email address e-banking@BancaIntesa.rs, which implies that the Contact Center employees will carry out checks to determine that the request was sent by an authorized person on behalf of the legal entity of the account owner;
  • on the same or the following working day, submit to the Bank a completed notification about the inflow;
  • submit to the Bank the document on which the payment is made in those cases where the submission of that document is prescribed.

NOTE: If the documentation is incomplete or not delivered on time, the Bank will undertake the actions and measures provided for in the contract and applicable regulations. If it is determined that the payment was made against the law, the Bank will report to the competent state authority, which includes the delivery of identification data of the payee and the transaction, as well as other required/prescribed data. Additionally, we would like to emphasize that failure to submit documentation, submission of incorrect or incomplete data, as well as other violations of the aforementioned obligations, may lead to the termination of the business relationship.

Performing SEPA transactions brings numerous benefits for your business:

  • Lower fees for international payments in EUR - a significant reduction in costs compared to previous foreign currency payments;
  • Faster execution of payments - more efficient transfer of funds, often within one working day;
  • Standardized process - use of unique formats and rules (IBAN), with a lower risk of errors;
  • Easier business with foreign partners - billing and payments to companies from the EU and other SEPA countries;
  • Greater transparency of costs – clear and pre-defined terms of transactions;
  • Support for the internationalization of business - easier access to the European market and improvement of export potential.

In accordance with the mentioned changes, the General Terms and Conditions of Banca Intesa AD Belgrade for payment accounts and payment services for legal entities and entrepreneurs (OUP) have been amended, in the part of terminology, terms and conditions for execution of transactions and rejection/refund/revocation of international payment transactions. The Fee Tariff of Banca Intesa AD Beograd for legal entities and entrepreneurs (Tariff of Fees) has also been amended, namely in the Foreign Exchange Payments section, which enables you to make additional savings and more competitive business. The General Terms and Conditions have been updated in the parts related to the protection of your rights (the right to object, complain and mediate before the National Bank of Serbia) and the elements of the payment order, which in the future will be regulated directly by positive regulations in order to avoid possible inconsistencies. We emphasize that the mentioned changes do not limit your contractual rights in any way. Updated versions of the GTC and Fee Tariff will be available to you in our branches and on the internet before the start of SEPA transactions, i.e. from April 30, 2026.

Foreign currency payments within the SEPA payment system will have improved processing standards and greater transparency of costs, with which we want to provide you with more favorable business conditions and further support your growth.

We believe that these changes will contribute to easier management of your finances, reduction of international payment costs, improvement of your overall business efficiency and more efficient connection with the international market.
